Canadian Embassy basement tanking

Project Description

Location: Trafalgar Square, London
Services: Basement Tanking and Wet Rot

The Canadian High Commission has been in residence in Canada House in Trafalgar Square since 1923. Refurbished in 1997-98, it is one of the striking buildings surrounding the square and thousands of tourists pass by its splendid facade every year. Inside, however, we found a damp basement and resulting wet rot affecting the underground space.

Once our survey had revealed the extent of the damage, we replaced the basement cavity membrane, applied waterproof render and skim, and screed a new waterproof floor. The wet rot that had developed as a result of the damp basement meant replacing rotten timbers and treating those that remained.
